Amanda Clark

Biography

Amanda D. Clark, Ph.D., is an Assistant Teaching Professor with the Department of Public Policy and Administration at the Steven J. Green School of International and Public Affairs at Florida International University.  

Dr. Clark’s research focuses on election administration, social movement framing, and the U.S. policy process. After serving at the Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections Office in 2020, where she ran early voting, Dr. Clark focused her research on election administration and the role that public affairs academics play in supporting this essential public service. Her work includes examining the public service motivations of poll workers, the impact of the Help America Vote Act on Florida election law and administrative burden, and strategies for election workers dealing with emotional labor in their positions. Her earlier research examined the framing strategies of social movements, and she is the author of Framing the Fight Against Human Trafficking: Movement Coalitions and Tactical Diffusion published by Lexington Books (2019). 

Dr. Clark holds a Ph.D. in political science from Kent State University in Kent, OH, an MPIA from the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs at the University of Pittsburgh and a bachelor’s degree in International Business and French from Marietta College in Marietta, OH. She is active in the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA), the Southern Political Science Association (SPSA), and the Public Administration Theory Network, where she is a member of the Board and treasurer. Her recent journal articles have been published in Administration & Society, Research in Social Movements, Conflicts and Change, Administrative Theory & Praxis, and Urban Affairs Review.
