Endowments

To continue our success, the Green School needs to stimulate new ideas, fund innovative projects, recruit outstanding faculty and attract talented students. Endowed gifts support these goals and provides a permanent link to our academic and research excellence.

Endowments are vital in creating and sustaining important initiatives - scholarships, fellowships, faculty positions, research and programs. When a donor invests in FIU to establish an endowment, they create a legacy that will provide permanent income to support a meaningful project, thereby advancing the university’s excellence in its priorities in perpetuity.

Depending on an individual passion or interest, the endowment can be focused or wide-ranging. The principal of the gift is invested and grows over time, while quarterly distributions provide a steady, reliable source of income to the designated program. This ensures the gift will provide benefits year after year, generation after generation.

There are many ways endowed funds can have perpetual benefits. Below are some examples.

  • Naming a Department, Center or Institute

The permanent naming of a Department, Center or Institute can be made.

  • Eminent Scholars Chair

An endowed Eminent Scholars Chair is one of the most prestigious honors at the university. Only the most outstanding scholars, nationally and internationally recognized as leaders in their academic discipline are considered for the Eminent Scholars Chair.

These renowned scholars help to attract other prominent faculty members to our programs leading to innovative research, public service and academic programs.

A gift of $3 million will endow an Eminent Scholars Chair.

  • Endowed Professorships & Chairs

    Distinguished Chairs

Distinguished Chairs are exceptional scholars who bring critical acclaim to the College. These outstanding professors are mentors for younger faculty to inspire innovative research and academic excellence.

Help us recruit outstanding scholars around the world while building our faculty expertise in any particular field!

    Distinguished Professorships

An endowed Distinguished Professorship attracts faculty with notable achievements in research and teaching. A Distinguished Professorship enables the College to also recognize and reward outstanding senior faculty at the top of their careers and in great demand at other institutions.

    Named Visiting Professorships

By endowing a professorship, you can name a faculty position in honor of a family member, colleague, mentor or friend. Named or Endowed Visiting Professorships ensure that scholarly and research excellence will thrive in the teachers and students of the future.

  • Graduate Fellowships

Graduate Fellowships help students reach the next level of excellence while attracting top graduate and postdoctoral talent.

    Endowments starting at: $250,000

  • Undergraduate Scholarships

Our students are able to thrive thanks to supporters like you! Endowed scholarships and support funds create opportunities for students who may not otherwise afford an FIU education. These funds may also honor a family member, mentor or organization.

  • Gifts-in-kind

We encourage and welcome gifts-in-kind, such as computer hardware and software, industry equipment, works of art, books and other tangible personal property that the university would otherwise need to purchase. Through gifts-in-kind, supporters help the university strengthen programs and improve facilities to provide the best possible educational experience to our students.

While these types of gifts are often received from businesses and corporations, individual donors also contribute many types of gifts-in-kind.

  • Giving Societies

FIU has six societies that honor the generosity of our donors whose cumulative giving to the university totals $50,000 or more. Please see FIU Lifetime Giving Societies for more information.

In addition, the Green School has several unique giving societies of our own! From our Dean’s Alumni Leadership Circle to our Green School Donor Family Circle, all of our donors have a place for impact and community.

  • Real Estate

Donors who wish to create a legacy at the Green School and FIU can transform their real estate holdings into a meaningful gift for the university. A gift of real estate is a great way to seed funding for an endowed faculty position, student scholarships, or to provide program enhancements. We consider accepting all forms of real property.

If you have questions or would like to make a gift of property, please contact the Green School Advancement Team.

  • Securities

Making a gift of appreciated stocks, bonds, or mutual funds is a powerful way to support the Steven J. Green School of International and Public Affairs while maximizing your tax benefits. Our Advancement Team is happy to assist you with the simple process of transferring your securities gift. Please please contact Stephany Alvarez-Ventura at scaalvar@fiu.edu.

  • Tribute/In Memoriam Gifts

A tribute gift is a meaningful way to convey sympathy to the bereaved, memorialize a loved one, commemorate a special occasion, or honor a person’s life and accomplishments.

You may designate your gift to any fund—including to new or existing endowment funds—that is particularly meaningful to you, the occasion or the honoree.
