Let FIU get you there with a one-of-kind semester in Washington, D.C., exclusively for undergraduates enrolled in the Steven J. Green School of International & Public Affairs, in collaboration with the Jack D. Gordon Institute for Public Policy and FIU in Washington, D.C.

Combine your academic knowledge with a hands-on opportunity to develop skills essential to a career in public affairs, policy and advocacy. The program begins in fall 2024 with a noncredit, online course and continues in Washington, D.C., in spring 2025 with in-person classroom sessions at FIU’s center on Capitol Hill and a paid internship that FIU will help you secure.

This program is available exclusively to undergraduate students enrolled in a Steven J. Green School of International and Public Affairs degree program.

Additional Requirements

  • Enrolled full-time in a Green School degree program
  • 60+ credits earned
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA

Why a semester in Washington, D.C.?

Washington, D.C. stands as a symbol of American history, democracy and governance. It is the meeting place of the U.S. Congress and the epicenter of federal policymaking. Laws, intelligence decisions, foreign and military affairs, budget appropriations and more fall under the purview of Congress. By studying and interning in D.C., you will dive into an environment where key decisions are made while gaining firsthand experience and insight into the workings of government.

Faculty, government officials, agency heads and other leading experts will be your instructors. The FIU network of alumni and friends will serve as guides as you build your knowledge and plan for your career.

    Enroll in FIU’s online course, Fundamentals of Public Advocacy for Informed Citizens.

    • Meet weekly via Zoom with FIU Alumna and former State Senator Anitere Flores
    • Developed by the Jack D. Gordon Institute for Public Policy
  • Then Head to D.C. for Spring 2025

    Spend a one-of-a-kind semester in Washington, D.C., taking classes and working with FIU’s on-site student support team to secure a paid internship.

    • Apply your skills through a paid internship
