It also foregrounds the resistance of women’s organizations to this erosion, noting their 2021 petition to the Council of Europe contesting Türkiye’s withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention.
Dr. Canan Balkır, Professor of Economics and former Jean Monnet Chair, has held posts as department chair, dean, and vice president at various universities in Türkiye and Cyprus. She has led many EU-funded projects. A Fulbright and British Council scholar, she has also been deeply engaged in human rights, democracy, and women’s advocacy.
