2025 José Antonio Echeverría Scholarship Awarded

The Cuban Research Institute is happy to announce the winners of the 2025 José Antonio Echeverría Scholarship. For the first time, both an undergraduate student and a graduate student were awarded $4,000 each to cover their tuition at FIU. This year's winners are:

  • Angelina Ness, undergraduate student of Neuroscience
  • Andy Ramírez, graduate student of Law

This scholarship was created in 2007 by the family and friends of José Antonio Echeverría, President of the University Students Federation (FEU in Spanish) at the University of Havana in 1957, who was murdered while defending democracy in Cuba.  The purpose of the scholarship is to promote the understanding of the political, social and economic realities of 1950s Cuba, and in particular, the life and legacy of José Antonio Echeverría. It is awarded every year to undergraduate and graduate FIU students who meet the requirements.
