Bio
Dr. María Antonieta García holds a Doctorate in Modern Languages in French and Spanish from Middlebury College, Vermont. She is a Teaching Professor of French in the Department of Modern Languages and a leader in experiential learning.
Because teaching is a vocation and an ongoing creative process for her, Dr. García has sought ways to expand her teaching beyond the classroom walls. She is the energetic Advisor of Le Cercle Français and Pi Delta Phi, two of the most active and awarded student organizations on campus. In the framework of these organizations, Dr. García creates and oversees over 40 activities per semester for FIU students in the areas of culture, community and philanthropy. She is a commended docent at the Frost Art Museum at FIU and the creator of the French Book Club at Books and Books where she leads a monthly discussion of Francophone literary works. Her students engage in bilingual student-curated digital exhibits at our Frost Art Museum and in COIL projects with students from Reunion Island and Burkina Faso.
Dr. Garcia teaches French language, conversation, literature, civilization, cinema, and French for business.
