Holocaust and Genocide Awareness Week 2024

Please join Hillel at FIU, the Holocaust & Genocide Studies Program, the Jewish Museum of Florida-FIU, and our many co-sponsors for FIU’s 9th Annual Holocaust & Genocide Awareness Week (HGAW), a series of on- and off-campus in-person and online events that will raise awareness about these darkest moments in history. In this era of heightened antisemitism, HGAW will engage our community with a range of perspectives on genocide and mass violence and will culminate in a campus-wide observance of International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

  • Thursday, January 25

    Tree of Life: Film Screenings and Discussion

    HGAW 2024 kicks off with two screenings of the film about the 2018 Pittsburgh synagogue shooting and the crisis of hate threatening our society today. Come to either screening and stay for a panel discussion to follow.

    Yehuda Michael, Greater Miami Jewish Federation’s Community Shaliach (Israel emissary), uses his personal story to shed light on Jewish stereotypes around race.

    Join us for Havdalah as Hagit Zadok Fefferman shares her grandparents’ remarkable survival story from the Holocaust, including insights from her recent trip to Poland to visit concentration camps.

    The Hate Around Us: Exhibition Opening Reception

    Please join us for the official opening of The Hate Around Us, a new exhibition on view at JMOF-FIU, which looks at the state of hate today through artwork, photographs, comic illustrations, written documents, advertisements, and other ephemera from the collections of Dr. Paul Drucker and others.
