Bio

Bruce Vitor is the Director of Research and Operations at FIU’s Jack D. Gordon Institute for Public Policy (JGI). In addition to supporting the JGI Director in the advancement of the academic partnership between FIU and U.S. Southern Command, he provides leadership in National Security and Strategy Development with a wide variety of U.S. and international partners. Bruce also provides direction for the Open Source Research Initiative and other areas of research innovation. Additionally, he facilitates cyber-intelligence/forensic intelligence collaboration opportunities with the Global Forensic Justice Center (GFJC) and intergovernmental and private industry partners. Bruce retired as a Colonel from the U.S. Army after 27 years of service in multiple assignments throughout the world as an Infantry Officer and a strategic planner. He has an extensive understanding of U.S. foreign policy, defense strategy, and economics in Asia, Indo-Pacific, Middle East, and Latin America. He has led planning and responses for several operations for humanitarian assistance/disaster relief crises, led countering transnational organized crime and violent extremism programs, and contributed to the development of the Army’s operational concept for the twenty-first century.
