Bio
Fiacre Bienvenu was born in Rwanda where he earned his B.A. in Sociology, and worked with a range of international organizations in the field of post-conflict reconstruction and development for ten years. He has an M.A. in African and African Diaspora Studies from FIU. Mr. Bienvenu is now a PhD Candidate majoring in Comparative Politics and International Relations. His area of study and teaching focuses on states-society interrelatedness, political culture, and democratization in Africa. His doctoral dissertation seeks to interrogate, explore, and identify the inward forms, patterns, and factors shaping the political behavior of civil society in the processes of democratizing the state in Rwanda since 1960. Mr. Bienvenu’s other research topics include post-conflict identity formation and ethnicity politics; the intersectionality of gender, power, and violence in politics; regional security complexes and securitization politics at the periphery; and the dynamics of domestic politics in framing foreign affairs in Africa.
