Maida Watson
Bio
Dr. Maida Watson is a full professor of Spanish in the Department of Modern Languages at Florida International University where she has been Chairperson twice. She has published eight books and over 40 articles in refereed journals and books in the US, Latin America and Europe and 13 dictionary entries on the subjects of 19th Century Latin American literature, Panamanian literature, Teaching Spanish for Business and Latin American Theater. She has won over 21 awards and grants from organizations such as the Kaufman foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Italian government, the American Philosophical Society, the Florida Endowment for the Humanities, the Florida Endowment for the Arts, the US Office of Education and the Fulbright Hays program. She is presently working on comparative studies of 19th century Latin American costumbrismo.
Dr. Watson is also the Interim Graduate Program Director of our graduate program in Spanish.
