Bio

Professor Howard Rock taught American History from 1973 to 2009. His areas of specialization are Early American history to 1815, Early American social history, the History of New York City, early American labor history and early American political history. He has published and/or edited five books including Artisans of the New Republic (1979); The New York City Artisan (1989); Keepers of the Revolution (with Paul Gilje, 1992); The American Artisan (with Paul Gilje, 1995), and Cityscapes: A History of New York in Images (with Deborah Dash Moore, 2001) along with numerous articles, chapters and book reviews.

Professor Rock's book Haven of Liberty: New York Jews in the New World, 1654-1865, is the first volume in a three-volume box set on the history of Jews in New York, published by NYU Press.
