Alfredo Escudero Villanueva, a doctoral candidate at FIU's Department of History, has garnered recognition for his article "The New Age of Andeans: Chronological Age, Indigenous Labor, and the Making of Spanish Colonial Rule," Hispanic American Historical Review (2023). The Latin American and Caribbean Section of the Southern Historical Association has awarded him an honorable mention for the 2024 Hanger Article Prize. This is the article’s third recognition, having been named best article by the Society for the History of Childhood and Youth and receiving an honorable mention from the Colonial Section of the Latin American Studies Association.
