3 plus 3 Program

FIU's College of Law (COL) will consider applications from qualified FIU undergraduate students who meet certain COL admissions requirements and will have earned a minimum of 90 undergraduate credits by the end of their junior year. Eligible students must have completed the requirements of their major program with a cumulative 3.50 GPA and be able to use the first 30 credits of the College of Law curriculum as upper division electives toward the 120 credit hours required for an FIU undergraduate degree.

Upon successful completion of the 1st year COL courses, students will be allowed to count those hours toward the FIU undergraduate program and earn the baccalaureate degree. Students will then continue the normal COL curriculum and complete the JD in the remaining 2 years. This opportunity is extended to exceptional students within specific major programs to reduce the time and expense for a JD degree by one year of coursework. To take advantage of this opportunity, the student must have an upper-division plan of study that allows for the completion of the baccalaureate degree using first-year College of Law courses for the final 30 elective hours. Interested students must consult their departmental advisor.

The following majors support this 3 + 3 opportunity with the College of Law for eligible students: Criminal Justice, Economics, History, Liberal Studies, Philosophy, Political Science, Public Administration, and Religious Studies.

Applying to FIU's College of Law

The Florida International University College of Law will consider applications from Florida International University undergraduates in their Junior (3rd) year who meet the following requirements:

1. Prior to the Fall semester of their senior year, students will have completed a minimum of 90 credit hours.

2. Prior to the Fall semester of their senior year, students must have satisfied all University, College and Major requirements with the exception of the minimum 120 credits.

3. Students will have a minimum GPA of a 3.50 as calculated by the Credential Assembly Service of the Law School Admissions Council (LSAC).

4. Students will have a minimum LSAT score of 155 (or the median LSAT score of the previous entering COL class) or the equivalent on the GRE prior to March of the year they wish to matriculate at the College of Law. Students should only take the LSAT or the GRE. If students take both exams the LSAT score will be given heavier consideration.

Meeting the four requirements for the application to be considered does not guarantee that the student will gain admission to the FIU College of Law.
