Volunteer Opportunities
Jazz to Junkanoo is a program that explores the enduring relationship between The Bahamas and Miami through music, migration, cultural memory, and community. On November 13 we will have a day of panel discussions and workshops at the FIU MMC campus. On November 14 the Public Humanities Lab is organizing a pop-up exhibition and culture fair at the Davis African Heritage Cultural Arts Center (DAHCAC), 6161 NW 22nd Ave, Miami, FL 33142. Volunteer Opportunities:
Information Desk Managers, FIU MMC: Provide information to event attendees about the day’s program and about how to stay up to date on future Public Humanities Lab programs and events.
Performer Liaisons, FIU MMC: Serve as point of contact for visiting performers and assist them with locating the performance venue.
Panelist Liaisons, FIU MMC: Serve as point of contact for panelists of one panel, assist them with locating their meeting rooms and provide support to the panel moderator during audience Q & A.
Event Coordination Volunteers, Davis African Heritage Cultural Arts Center: Assist with setting up and/or breakdown of pop-up exhibition, assist culture fair participants in setting up their tables, provide information to attendees about the day’s program and about how to stay up to date on future Public Humanities Lab programs and events.
All volunteers must attend a Zoom orientation on November 4 from 12pm to 1pm. If you are unable to attend this orientation, please contact Dr. Aarti Mehta-Kroll to schedule a meeting to go over the volunteer requirements: amehtakr@fiu.edu
