Studying abroad opens countless opportunities for personal and professional growth. It allows you to expand your worldview and enhance your career opportunities by gaining international experience. You can learn another language, experience another culture first-hand, and make new friends from around the world.

While living in a new environment, you naturally develop your communication, team-building, and adaptability skills, qualities that employers highly value. The experience itself is invaluable, helping you discover new things about your own culture while boosting your confidence and independence.

I urge everyone to study abroad at least once. Doesn’t have to be in Europe but go to any city that interests you and see how life is there. It will change who you are and your life outlook.

Dafne Ostermuenchner, France (Spring 2023)

By either good timing or a stroke of luck, my class and I were fortunate enough to witness the celebration of the Nit de San Joan on June 23rd, the day we arrived to Barcelona. Before arriving, I had never heard of this holiday, much less had any clue of what the holiday celebrated. ... Witnessing this unique celebration really brought to my attention how different Spain and the United States are, in that a celebration like the Nit de San Joan could never exist in the U.S.

Allison Vargas, Spain (Summer 2023)

If I had the opportunity to study abroad again, I would take it without thinking twice. This program gave me the best month of my life so far. If you are someone who is considering it, stop considering it and do it!

Nicole Martinez, Italy (Summer 2023)

I am extremely thankful I was blessed with the opportunity and support from my family to participate in a study abroad program. It is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that will change you forever!

Juanita Machuca, Italy (Spring 2024)

I believe strongly in the power of international education and that experiences abroad can be transformational. I have dedicated my career to it. FIU has a unique setup here in Genoa that is not available in typical Study Abroad programs.

Rachel Stowe, Program Manager, Italy (Fall 2024)

When I was studying in Genoa, the Erasmus program had just started. At the time, I didn’t take advantage of it, and I didn’t fully understand the potential of this initiative to empower a new generation through study exchanges and travel. I was fortunate enough to participate in other programs that allowed me to work abroad, but I sometimes feel regret for missing that early opportunity. That’s why I want our FIU students to have a great experience, and I will do everything I can to encourage them to study abroad, and support them while they are here living out this experience.

Giuliano Scarsi, Program Manager, Italy (Fall 2024)
