I urge everyone to study abroad at least once. Doesn’t have to be in Europe but go to any city that interests you and see how life is there. It will change who you are and your life outlook.

By either good timing or a stroke of luck, my class and I were fortunate enough to witness the celebration of the Nit de San Joan on June 23rd, the day we arrived to Barcelona. Before arriving, I had never heard of this holiday, much less had any clue of what the holiday celebrated. ... Witnessing this unique celebration really brought to my attention how different Spain and the United States are, in that a celebration like the Nit de San Joan could never exist in the U.S.

When I was studying in Genoa, the Erasmus program had just started. At the time, I didn’t take advantage of it, and I didn’t fully understand the potential of this initiative to empower a new generation through study exchanges and travel. That’s why I want our FIU students to have a great experience, and I will do everything I can to encourage them to study abroad, and support them while they are here living out this experience.
