The exhibition, From Venice with Love, currently on view at the Betsy Hotel-South Beach until November 15th is no ordinary show. It is, in essence, a love letter to Miami – celebratory, beautiful and defiant. Edouard Duval-Carrié’s retrospective, From Venice with Love amplifies his decades-long artistic vision.
A partnership among The Betsy Hotel, FIU’s Public Humanities Lab, IPC ArtSpace, iWitness and the Haitian Cultural Arts Alliance, this exhibition at The Betsy Hotel, Miami Beach draws deeply from Duval-Carrié’s reflections at the Venice Biennale, channeling the energy of a global crossroads into a vibrant meditation on identity, migration, and the intricate layers of cultural memory.
Duval-Carrié’s art is a powerful fusion of myth, history, and contemporary realities. He masterfully interlaces stories from the Global Borderless Caribbean with universal themes, from the legacies of colonialism, the complexity of diasporic identity, to the refusal to acquiesce to any false narratives crafted by the establishment. Through his multilayered use of media and technique, Duval-Carrié invites viewers to contemplate how movement and memory shape our sense of place and belonging.
With pieces of the exhibition woven throughout the hotel – the gallery, the Carleton Room, the BBAR, the Jazz Bar, and the ORB – this takeover invites audiences to both introspection and to thoughtful engagement with the centuries-old transatlantic narratives that connect Haiti, Venice and Miami.
Venice—a city steeped in history, art, and contemporary creativity — inspired the choices and contours of Duval-Carrié installation at the Biennale — the sculptures, installations and mixed-media pieces. The Biennale became both a stage and a catalyst, strengthening his resolve to amplify Caribbean diasporic narratives.
Upon returning to Miami, Duval-Carrié infuses From Venice with Love with the insights gained abroad. The exhibition is both a personal homage and public invitation—a space for Miami’s audiences to engage with the global conversations that animate his work. It encourages us to explore how personal and collective histories intersect and continue to shape our shared sense of self.
This Betsy Hotel takeover is Edouard’s love letter to Miami. The mixed-media pieces found throughout the Betsy property on Miami Beach are a clarion call for empathy, dialogue, and deeper understanding. Duval-Carrié’s art reminds us that through creative expression, we can bridge divides, honor our shared histories, and imagine more inclusive futures. His work stands as a testament to art's enduring ability to connect, challenge, and inspire.

Jazz in the Sanctuary: Assel Jean-Pierre Jr. Trio. The performance takes place at the Little Haiti Cultural Center, set against the backdrop of Woosler Delisfort’s photography exhibition, “SANCTUARY: Our Sacred Space,” a moving exploration of the spiritual origins of Miami’s Indigenous, African, and Caribbean communities—capturing moments of divine connection in temples, churches, and mosques, and illuminating the sacred spaces these communities continue to build in Miami.

An Evening on Ocean Drive: Jazz + The Orb
Begin with a live performance by the Assel Jean-Pierre Jr. Trio as part of the Ocean Drive Promenade Music Series, then continue the night with the official opening of Edouard Duval-Carrié’s ORB video installation, curated by Carl-Philippe Juste, presented on The Betsy Orb—Miami Beach’s glowing skybridge and a permanent canvas for public art.
Monday, August 17th
An intimate fireside conversation exploring the exhibition’s central themes—migration, memory, Vodou symbolism, and the Caribbean narratives his work powerfully reimagines. Hosted by Rosie Gordon-Wallace (founder of Diaspora Vibe Cultural Arts Incubator). Presented by The Betsy Writer's Room, FIU Public Humanities Lab, and GMCVB Art of Black, with support from Jorge Perez Family Foundation CreARTE Grant.
