The Public Humanities Lab has several undergraduate and graduate courses and certificates in the works.
ISS 4XXX/ISS 5XXX Capstone Course in Public Humanities Methodologies & Practices
This cross-listed undergrad/grad course will provide students with the latest theoretical and methodological approaches to Public Humanities community-engaged research. This course will expose students to a multitude of institutions and individuals whose work falls within the public humanities, from museums to archives, from documentary work to digital projects. Graduate students will be expected to produce a community-engaged research project/paper.
Internship Course
This internship course will be aligned with the students’ major discipline/field of study. It must align with goals and practices of public humanities work. The placement must be approved by the Public Humanities Certificate Director.
Writing History for General Audiences Micro-Credential
Developed within PHL and the Department of History, this badge introduces principles for writing historical work for general audiences and non-specialists. Earners can apply distinct skills such as how to come up with a good story idea; how to pitch a story to an editor; and how to write short pieces that offer historical perspectives for general audiences.
Public Humanities Undergraduate Certificate
This interdisciplinary 15-credit certificate is available to currently enrolled FIU undergraduate students. The requirements include:
- An internship (3 credits)
- A Capstone Seminar (3 credits) in Public Humanities Methodologies & Practices
- Three approved courses (9 credits) in the humanities from at least two different disciplines. This course list will be posted each semester and rotates over time.
Public Humanities Graduate Certificate
This interdisciplinary 15-credit certificate is available to currently enrolled FIU graduate students. The requirements include:
