Dr. Aarti Mehta-Kroll

Dr. Aarti Mehta-Kroll is the Assistant Director of the Public Humanities Lab. Her writing on public humanities have appeared in the School of International and Public Affairs Occasional Paper Series and the Of the People Blog of the Library of Congress.

An urban and community sociologist by training, she has participated in community story gathering and activation projects such as the Mellon Foundation funded 2022: History Exchange Coconut Grove and the Humanities Edge funded Visualizing Grand Avenue in the 1960s. Drawing from this experience, she has designed a Micro-credential on Collecting Oral Histories.

She co-led the American Folklife Center of the Library of Congress funded project “Documenting Goombay and Little Bahamas of Coconut Grove”. As a part of this project, she co-curated a community pop up exhibition with Marianna Lamonaca of FIU Humanities Edge and created the content of the website https://littlebahamasmiami.com/. She served on the board of 2025 Goombay Festival Planning Committee.
