All applicants must have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution of higher education, or an equivalent degree from a foreign institution with a minimum upper-division GPA of 3.0.
These admission requirements are minimums and not all students meeting them are assured admission. Students with a grade-point average below the above minimums may still apply to be considered for an admission waiver. The student must provide an explanation as to why the waiver should be approved.
Steps to Apply
To apply for admission to the Master of Arts in Global Affairs program, applicants should submit the following:
- Submit your graduate school application through the FIU Graduate School Online Application portal accompanied by a non-refundable $30.00 USD application fee. You must create an account to apply. You can initiate the application without all required documents; a program coordinator will contact you after submission to guide you through the remaining steps.
- Official transcripts from all previously attended colleges and/or universities.
- Official proof of degree. A notarized copy of the original diploma is required if the degree is not posted on the official transcript(s).
- Two letters of recommendation (professional and academic letters/recommendations only; at least one letter needs to be from a professor/faculty member; letters should be written on letterhead and signed by the recommender)
- A statement of purpose (750-words minimum) describing the candidate’s academic and professional background as well as career aspirations. The statement of purpose should also discuss how the Master of Arts in Global Affairs program (and the desired track) will benefit the candidate’s professional aspirations.
- Resume or Curriculum Vitae (CV).

For International Applicants
International applicants and applicants who did not obtain a degree in the U.S. should submit all of the documents above as well as those listed below.
Graduate Applicants are required to submit an official translated transcript and a course-by-course evaluation of each post-secondary transcript they have acquired since leaving secondary school. These become the property of FIU and it is expected applicants use a NACES member credential evaluation service.
In addition, the following are also required:
- Official TOEFL score.
- Declaration of Finances.
- Bank letter.
- Sponsor letter (if applicable).
Please be mindful that no application will be considered until the application fee is paid. Your application fee must be paid within 30 days after the submission of your application for admission to Florida International University. Failure to do so will result in the cancellation of your application.
