Venezuela: From Student Movement to Popular Protest

On Feb. 25, 2014, the Latin American and Caribbean Center presented a teach-in event on the unfolding situation in Venezuela. Approximately 140 students and members of the Venezuelan community shared views on the current protests taking place in that country with LACC Affiliated Faculty members Manuel Gomez, FIU Law Professor; Astrid Arraras, Political Science; Felix Martin, International Relations; Leo Ferreira, Journalism and Mass Communications; and Frank Mora, LACC Director. Student groups are seeking ways to make their support from a distance, all while raising awareness of the situation and creating pressure for a quick resolution in Venezuela. The event was part of LACC’s Security and Governance and Andean Studies Programs of Excellence and was co-sponsored by Maloka.
