SIPA’s Latin American and Caribbean Center has been designated a National Resource Center (NRC) awarded more than $2 million for programming and student initiatives through a 4-year Title VI NRC for Latin America and Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowship grant.
The NRC program provides grants to higher education institutions which feature centers that serve as resources for international study and world affairs that concern one or more countries. Foreign language training and international research are key components of the program.
While LACC has been awarded the Title VI grants in prior years as part of a consortium, this year marks the first time LACC has been a lone recipient. As part of the program, FIU will receive more than $300,000 in student scholarships during the next four years.
