Each semester the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute selects 12 University students from across the nation to participate in its Congressional Internship Program (CIP). This spring semester, two Florida International University Students, Michelle Malouf and Abel Ramos, both from the Department of Politics and International Relations, were amongst the 12 selected. The purpose of the CIP is to expose young Latinos to the legislative process and to strengthen their professional and leadership skills, ultimately promoting the presence of Latinos on Capitol Hill and in Federal Agencies. CHCI annually develops the program three times a year and college students who wish to participate must register and go through a selection process based on their talents and in contributions to their communities. Currently, Michelle Malouf is interning in the office of Senator Mark Udall of the state of Colorado, and Abel Ramos is interning in the office Congressman Joe Garcia.
