Immigration is one of the most pressing topics in U.S. foreign and domestic policy today. From issues surrounding who is allowed entry into the U.S. to the status of undocumented immigrants and their families, many people are wondering if immigration reform is possible, what it could mean and how it could benefit citizens and non-citizens.

Join us for a half-day conference bringing together leading scholars and practitioners from FIU and throughout the community, to explore the current landscape and future possibilities of immigration and immigration reform, particularly as it relates to South Florida. The event will feature panel discussions on topics such as the local realities of immigration, the criminalization of immigration and immigrant status.

Keynote Speaker: Anne C. Richard, former Assistant Secretary of State for Population, Refugees and Migration from 2012-2017

Just a few of the featured speakers include:

  • Adonia R. Simpson, Director of Americans for Immigrant Justice
  • Ana Quiros, Lead Attorney at Catholic Legal Services
  • Julio Calderon, Organizer at Florida Immigrant Coalition
  • Frank Mora, former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for the Western Hemisphere from 2009-2013 and Director of FIU’s Kimberly Green Latin American and Caribbean Center
  • Juan Gomez, Director of FIU’s Carlos A. Costa Immigration and Human Rights Clinic and professor at FIU Law
