"Lives in the Balance: FDR, Trujillo and the DR's Settlement at Sosua, 1940-41"
Lecture by author Allen Wells, Ph.D., Professor, Department of History, Bowdoin College explores Dominican dictator Rafael Trujillo's offer to accept 100,000 Central European Jews in 1938 and the eventual failure to save the lives of thousands of Jews due to US State Department fears of Nazi infiltration into the Americas and Washington's insistence on vetting each refugee.
